The Georgia Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of a man who pleaded guilty in connection with a 2015 shooting at Lil Wayne’s tour buses in Atlanta.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, shots were fired at two of the rapper’s buses after his performance at Compound nightclub in April 2015. Lil Wayne and others were reportedly aboard, and no one was injured.
Jimmy, who performs as Peewee Roscoe, was indicted on 30 counts and later pleaded guilty to six gang related charges. He received a 10 year prison sentence as part of a deal with prosecutors.
On June 29, the state’s highest court ruled that the trial judge improperly took part in the plea talks. The AJC and The Fader report that the judge suggested a longer sentence if Jimmy turned down the deal and lost at trial. The court found the plea involuntary and overturned the conviction.
The ruling means the case can go back to court. Jimmy could face a retrial or a new plea agreement, and he remains in jail for now. No comment from him was reported.
