On Tuesday, former Giants DT Barry Cofield was arrested in Florida on several charges, including multiple assault and drug offenses following an attempted traffic stop.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. after Cofield was found passed out behind the wheel of his black Cadillac Escalade, with his foot on the brake at a stop light that cycled several times.
According to the arrest report, when officials tried to wake him, Cofield accelerated through the traffic light and led the police on a low-speed chase. Amid the pursuit, officials say he did not “travel faster than the speed limit nor make “evasive maneuvers,” but he did reportedly swerve into multiple lanes and side-swipe a car at the intersection, before he crashed into a second police car.
