Mel B Says She’s Struggling To Pay “Community Property Debts” Due To IRS Debt

Mel B is reportedly struggling financially due to an outstanding tax bill against her and her estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the Spice Girls singer and “America’s Got Talent” judge claims the outstanding debt — which dates back to 2016 and is reportedly between $350,000 and $650,000 — has left her unable to pay for “community property debts” due to the IRS garnishing her earnings.

“I do not have the financial capabilities at this point to pay for these community property debts,” she said in the documents. “My current state of financial affairs is of utmost concern due to the fact that Stephen and I have immense tax debts and have been unable to repay those debts.”

Mel B’s current financial woes could potentially add more stress, as she went on to reveal her uncertainty surrounding the renewal of her “America’s Got Talent” contact in October.

“I am currently a judge on the NBC television show, ‘America’s Got Talent.’ I am currently in contract until the end of October 2018,” she said. “I do not know if I will be asked back as a Judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’ or if they will renew my contract.”

The news comes on the heels of a recent declaration filed by the singer’s friend, Derek Craig Daniel, as part of the ongoing divorce hearing to Belafonte. In the declaration, Daniel claims the 43-year-old singer allegedly solicited him at a Los Angeles restaurant on February 28, 2018, to either “harm or find someone to help her harm Stephen.”

The estranged couple filed for divorce in March 2017.
