A woman in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to nine years in prison for killing her father in 2006, according to Fox News and the Washington Post.
Barbara, 63, turned herself in to police in January 2018 and admitted she killed her father, Kenneth, twelve years earlier. Reports say she told the court she had suffered abuse at his hands for decades and that she acted after finding photographs of herself and another child among his belongings.
Her lawyer, Heslop, told the court that she had little contact with anyone outside the home and was controlled by her father. Barbara pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.
The judge said she killed while suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and severe depression after years of abuse, and he did not accept that she had acted in self defense.
