It’s 2018 and pedophiles are on a mission to rebrand themselves to be a part of the LGBTQ community.
According to several reports from LGBTQ sites, controversial groups “MAPs (Minor-Attracted Persons)” and “NOMAPs (Non-Offending Minor Attracted Persons)” are attempting to normalize their predator behavior by claiming “pedophiles are misunderstood marginalized people, and that as long as their attraction to children is not acted upon — or in some cases when they get permission from the child — that they should not be villainized.”
To date, MAPs have been active on social media and connecting mostly on forums for supporters through a list of blogs on Tumblr. What’s more troubling is that one expert considers pedophilia “as a sexual orientation” — like being straight or gay.
“I believe Pedophilic Disorder is a sexual orientation with individuals that are attracted to child features,” a criminal psychologist wrote on a 2016 Reddit forum. “In other words, an individual with pedophilia has the same ingrained attraction that a heterosexual female may feel towards a male, or a homosexual feels towards their same gender.”
“An individual can have pedophilic interests without ever acting on these behaviourally,” he continued. “However, as I am working with criminal offenders, my experience is entirely weighted to those who have engaged in this behaviourally.”
To further justify their desire to join the LGBT community, the group has gone as far as creating their very own “Pride” flag — with alternative colors — in commemoration of last month’s LGBTQ Pride Month. The month-long celebration is in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and the birth of the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
As if that wasn’t enough, some group supporters have expressed their views and backing on Twitter. “Because conservatives are close-minded and afraid of change. We live in a progressive era now. It’s time to ditch pedosexualphobia. #LGBTP,” Twitter user Tom Wilson wrote to his followers in April 2017. He went on to respond to another user’s disapproval,” It isn’t harmful if they enjoy it. Children can learn to enjoy sex with an older partner if they experience it with consent. #LoveIsLove.”
According to ABC News, among children, approximately “60 percent of boys and 80 percent of girls who are sexually victimized are abused by someone known to the child or the child’s family.”
In addition, 20% of all victims develop serious devastating long-term psychological problems. They may take the form of dissociative responses and other signs of post-traumatic stress syndrome, chronic states of arousal, nightmares, flashbacks, venereal disease, anxiety over sex, and fear of exposing the body during medical exams, according to the American Medical Association.
As a precaution for today’s youth, veteran child exploitation investigator Daniel Johns urges all parents to take the following actions when it comes to children’s internet and social media usage.
“Tell your kids that if they haven’t met the person in real life, they shouldn’t be friends online,” Johns suggested in a 2016 FBI.gov article, “Limit your child’s device usage to common areas of the household, and store those devices in your bedroom at night.”
