A grand jury in Florida indicted four men on Thursday in the shooting death of rapper XXXTentacion, according to reports. Court documents obtained by The Blast lay out how investigators say they identified the suspects. An indictment is an accusation and not a finding of guilt.
According to those documents, XXXTentacion was leaving RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach on June 18, 2018 when a dark SUV driven by a man named Dedrick blocked his vehicle. Two men then reportedly got out, demanded his belongings, shot him and took a small Louis Vuitton bag before leaving the scene.
Investigators said they used surveillance footage and social media posts to find Dedrick, who was arrested two days later. The documents say he first told detectives he was not at the scene, then said he was there only with his daughter and a friend. After being told he had been caught on camera, he reportedly changed his account again, saying he went to the dealership with other men but did not know what they planned to do. He also reportedly said he did not want to be labeled a snitch in prison.
The documents say investigators found guns in his car and home, ammunition matching casings from the scene, and new clothing tied to an $800 receipt. They also say Dedrick’s girlfriend told investigators he confided in her and named two other men, Michael and Trayvon.
Police also reportedly linked a hit and run that happened about three hours after the shooting to the suspects. Trayvon was identified as the driver, and the car was traced to a rental. The rental owner reportedly said the woman who rented it was with Michael and a man known as “Big Rob,” identified in the documents as Robert, the fourth man indicted.
The documents say DNA evidence reportedly matched Michael’s fingerprints in the getaway car. He was interviewed and reportedly denied being at the dealership or in the car. Investigators wrote that they found similar items in his home and matched his phone records to Dedrick’s, and that he is believed to be one of the two gunmen. At the time of this report, Trayvon and Robert had not been taken into custody.
