In today’s “Chile What” news, former Texas A&M football player, Thomas Linze Johnson, recently admitted to killing a random jogger at a park in the Dallas area.
“It appears Mr. Johnson picked this victim at random. Absolutely random,” Dallas police deputy toldThe Dallas Morning News. “He just attacked him. … It’s just very unusual. It’s quite shocking.”
It is said that Johnson, who is 21 years old, used a large-edged weapon to kill the jogger in a fit of rage. He then walked away from the scene and asked a man nearby if he could use his cellphone to call 911.
Another witness who called 911, details what he saw, “As I get closer and closer I could tell it was a machete and there are repeated blows that are occurring. As I get closer, I could see what’s being hit is a person, laying face down on the ground. It was apparent to me by the time I got close that there was nothing that could be done for the person.”
In his 911 call, Johnson tells dispatchers there’s a man “laying down with a sword in his head and not moving.” When police arrived Johnson told the officer “I need to talk to you,” and that he had just commit capital murder. The officer asked what he meant by that and Johnson replied, “It’s like when you don’t wake up.”
The unidentified victim was not carrying any identification. He is said to be within the age of 25 and 35. Earlier this year, Johnson was arrested on charges of evading arrest, burglary of a habitation and auto theft after breaking into his aunt’s house and stealing her money and minivan. “He had been causing problems in the family for a long period of time,” his aunt tells authorities.
Johnson is currently being held without bail.
