Trump claims the secret recording of him disclosing that he did in fact pay ex-playmate #KarenMcDougal is doctored.
This week it was revealed that #DonaldTrump’s former lawyer #MichaelCohen secretly recorded Trump back in 2016 while the two were having a conversation about payments being made to McDougal. Trump originally said he wasn’t aware of any transactions being made with his former lover. McDougal unknowingly sold the story to one of Trump’s allies David Pecker who is also the head of the National Inquirer and promised to air the story but never did.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, the recording that has since been obtained by CNN was played last night and you are able to hear the two men discussing the matter. At the time, Trump was just a presidential candidate and he talks about the “financing” of the McDougal pay deal. Trump asks, “What financing?” When Cohen says, “Well, I have to pay –,” Trump interrupts and says, “Pay with cash.” Cohen quickly replies, “No, no, no, no, no.”
On Tuesday, Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis went over the tape with CNN’s Chris Cuomo. The tape cuts off suddenly after the brief conversation. Trump maintains that he never knew about any payments and also denies he and McDougal ever had a relationship.

However, Trump tweeted out his response to the scandal. “What kind of a lawyer would tape a client? So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before? Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped – can this be so? Too bad!”
