Auburn’s senior receiver and NFL draft hopeful, D’haquille “Duke” Williams, was kicked off the football team on Monday after going on a punching spree inside a local bar. Williams is accused of punching two security guards, a bartender assistant and his team mate, Xavier Dampeer, following Auburn’s win over San Jose State.
The incident was allegedly sparked when one of Williams’ friends was kicked out of Skybar for violating the bar’s dress code by wearing sunglasses inside. Williams, who witnesses say was drunk, attempted to get his friend back inside but was denied and tossed out also. The bar owners eventually let Williams back in, but removed him again after he allegedly threw a drink at a female patron.
According to a witness, Duke lost it and hit 4 people, which included the bouncers and manager. He was tossed out of the club where his team mates attempted to calm him down but he then punched Xavier Dampeer in the mouth.
We received a Baller Mail from someone on the scene who said that about 5 minutes later, two friends of Duke were involved in another altercation in front of a local restaurant, Lil Italy. One gentleman who came with Duke was knocked unconscious. The fight was broken up by an plain clothed officer. Duke’s friend was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Another friend of Duke’s was arrested. There is no record of Duke Williams being arrested that night but he’s still facing consequences.
“Last night I dismissed Duke Williams from our team,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said on Tuesday. “I gave him a chance to prove himself, and I’m disappointed it didn’t work out. Our team will be fine. We will move on.”
