We all know by now that NBA player Matt Barnes can be a little hot headed at times…both on and off the court. I’m sure Knicks head coach Derek Fisher already knew this, being that they were teammates back when they both played for the Lakers. But in case he forgot, he was reminded again this past weekend not to get on Barnes’ bad side. According to sources, Barnes ran up on Fisher this past Saturday in Los Angeles and attacked him. What was the fight over? None other than Barnes’ ex-wife and Fisher’s new girlfriend, Gloria Govan.
Barnes and Govan have been separated for about a year now, and rumors had been swirling in recent months that she was rebounding with her ex’s former teammate and friend, Derek Fisher. Sources say that the two were hanging out on Saturday night at Govan’s house (which is also Barnes’ former house) with a group of friends and family. According to the NY Post, Barnes was in Santa Barbara for training camp and when he found out Fisher was at his old house with his ex, he got in his car and drove 95 miles to LA to “beat the sh*t out of Fisher”. Barnes showed up at the house and an altercation broke out between the two men. The other people who were there eventually broke up the fight and neither Barnes nor Fisher was seriously injured.
Fisher ended up missing practice with the Knicks on Monday due to “personal reasons”, which obviously left people speculating that he was recovering from the fight with Barnes.
Sounds like Matt Barnes won Round 1. Will there be a Round 2?
