Michael Jackson’s estate and IMAX announced Wednesday, on what would have been the singer’s 60th birthday, that they are partnering to digitally remaster “Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D” into IMAX. It will be released in IMAX theaters across the U.S. for only one week, beginning September 21st, according to #Billboard.
The Jackson estate’s co-executors say Jackson loved to give his fans the “latest and greatest in technology and entertainment experiences,” so this definitely is an effort #MichaelJackson would’ve put in motion a long time ago perhaps.
The short film, directed by John Landis, premiered in #LosAngeles in 1983 to excellent reviews. The 3D version was first shown at the 74th #VeniceFilmFestival in 2017.
But there is a slight catch! Thriller 3D will only be shown ahead of screenings of Eli Roth’s “The House with a Clock in Its Walls”. So if #EliRoth movies aren’t typically your thing, just deal with it for Michael’s sake.
