Just days after Mel B announced her decision to check into rehab for post-traumatic stress disorder, amid her struggles with sex and alcohol, the Spice Girl released another statement to clarify negative assumptions about her decision.
“No, I’m not an alcoholic. No, I’m not a sex addict,” she said in an interview with Ellen Degeneres, adding that the decision was solely based on her struggles with PTSD.
Despite the clarification, though, her ex, Stephen Belafonte used her decision to seek self-help against her in his refueled fight for custody.
According to TMZ, Belafonte stood before the court on Friday to plead his case for custody, accusing his ex of being in an alcohol-fueled spiral. In fact, Belafonte provided documents and witnesses statements to prove his case.
In one of the declarations obtained by the publication, a man responsible for watching Mel’s babies, Madison and Angel, says the two are at series risk as a result of Mel’s drinking problem.
He says she drinks on a daily basis, and starts as early as 10 am with beer, which then turns to wine and eventually hard liquor. According to TMZ, Russell Updegraff claims Mel’s drinking is so bad that she turns into an angry belligerent drunk during her stupors.
In addition to that, he says she’s even had an issue with cocaine, but it pails in comparison to her drinking problem, and the children are scared and stressed out over it.
Also in the docs, Updegraff claims Mel has a slew of men coming in and out of the home, with one even trying to bring her seven-year-old into the shower with him.
Amid the series claims though, Belafonte maintained that he does not want to take the kids away from Mel. Instead, he wants temporary custody while she’s in rehab.
As a result, the two came to a consensus in the judge’s chambers at this morning’s hearing, though the details remain sealed. But, it appears the two have worked things out, for the most part.
