Afroman is walking out of court with a major win after a jury cleared him in a lawsuit brought by Ohio police officers over his viral music videos. The Afroman lawsuit verdict now closes a case that started after a controversial 2022 raid on his home.

Seven deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Department sued the rapper, born Joseph Foreman, claiming his posts and music videos crossed the line into defamation and caused emotional distress. However, the jury didn’t see it that way and ruled fully in Afroman’s favor after only a few hours of deliberation.
The case goes back to August 2022, when officers raided Afroman’s Ohio property with guns drawn over suspicions of drug trafficking and kidnapping. Nothing was found, no charges were filed, and his seized money was later returned. So Afroman flipped the moment into content, using surveillance footage to create music videos that mocked the raid.
That included clips from his “Lemon Pound Cake” video and other posts that called out specific officers. Because of that, the deputies said they faced harassment and even threats tied to the viral content.
In court, Afroman stood firm on his First Amendment rights. “All of this is their fault, and they have the audacity to sue me,” he told the court. He also doubled down on his stance, saying, “I got freedom of speech. After they run around my house with guns and kick down my door, I got the right to kick a can in my back yard, use my freedom of speech, and turn my bad times into a good time, yes I do.”
The trial had its moments, from emotional testimony by deputies to sharp exchanges between attorneys. One officer broke down on the stand while watching a video, while another faced tough questioning about claims made in Afroman’s lyrics.
In the end, the jury made it clear. “In all circumstances, the jury finds in favor of the defendant,” Judge Jonathan Hein said in court.
Afroman avoided a potential $3.9 million payout and walked away with a legal victory that reinforces how far free speech can go, especially when it comes to criticizing public officials.
