An Arizona man faked his kidnapping to get out of work.

On Feb. 10, Coolidge police received a call at around 5:25 p.m. about “a male subject whose hands were bound behind his back with a belt and had a bandana stuffed in his mouth,” according to a police press release per People.
The call was from 19-year-old Brandon Soules, who told officers that he was kidnapped by two men wearing masks in front of his home. He added that they knocked him cold after repeatedly hitting him on his head. Before dumping him on Coolidge street, Soules says the men drove around several times.
An investigation was then launched into Soules’s claims, which included him being kidnapped because his father had hidden a large amount of money around the town. However, officers didn’t find any evidence that the teen was actually abducted. According to the Associated Press, surveillance footage also didn’t show any footage that would support his story.
Police ended up arresting Soules on Feb. 17 for false reporting; his consequence is a fine of $550. He pleaded guilty during a sentencing hearing on Feb. 18. He initially admitted to the crime during a police interview.
