The Ambriola Company, supplier of pecorino Romano cheese for Boar’s Head and Locatelli, has issued a nationwide recall of several cheese products due to the potential presence of listeria. The FDA categorized the situation as a Class I recall, its most serious level, indicating a risk of serious health consequences or death.
According to the FDA, a Class I recall refers to “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
The recall includes 6-ounce packages of Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano Cheese (UPC 0-42421-05858) with best-by dates ranging from November 21, 2025 to March 12, 2026. Also included are 7-ounce wedges of Boar’s Head Pecorino Romano Cheese (UPC 0-42421-15160) with best-by dates between November 25, 2025 and May 11, 2026.
Additionally, all sell-by dates of Locatelli Pecorino Romano Grated Cheese (UPC 41793-82493) are affected. Boar’s Head EverRoast Chicken Caesar Salads and Wraps, which contain the recalled cheese, are also part of the warning.
No illnesses have been reported so far, but the FDA urges consumers to discard or return any of the impacted products. Listeria can pose significant health risks, particularly to pregnant individuals, newborns, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
Consumers with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the manufacturer directly or visit FDA.gov for updates.
