As the government shutdown stretched into its sixth week, the Congressional Black Caucus issued a powerful rebuke of the Trump Administration’s decision to only partially fund SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), warning that millions of Americans are being left hungry.
“Health care subsidies are set to skyrocket as previous subsidies expire, and 42 million Americans are losing food aid benefits,” the statement read, pointing to the widespread harm caused by the shutdown.

The CBC slammed the administration’s move as unlawful and dangerous, noting it violated two court rulings that prohibited freezing SNAP payments.
“Partial funding simply isn’t sufficient to keep food on the tables of American families who have already missed their benefits due to the Administration’s reckless and illegal inaction.”
The Caucus urged the full release of contingency funds, stating the Trump Administration had the resources but chose to withhold them.
“Each day that goes by is another day a child, senior, or person with a disability in our country goes hungry because the Trump Administration would rather play politics than meet the needs of the American people,” the CBC warned.
The Trump administration has not publicly responded to the Congressional Black Caucus.
