President Trump’s famous cameo scene in the holiday hit “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York” was cut from the movie showings by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) this month. In the short cameo, Kevin McCallister, portrayed by child actor Macaulay Culkin, walks into the Plaza hotel and bumps into Trump, who was then the owner of the prestigious hotel. Kevin asks him for directions to the lobby, where Trump replies, “Down the hall and to the left,” before exiting out of frame.
Viewers took to social media to both praise and criticize the network for the scene’s removal, believing that the scene was cut due to political reasons.
However, CBC spoke with ComicBook.com about the controversy, assuring both critics and supporters that the movie was edited to allow for commercials as opposed to political purposes.
“As is often the case with features adapted for television, ‘Home Alone 2’ was edited to allow for commercial time within the format,” CBC confirmed.
CBC also confirmed that the edit was originally made in 2014, years before Trump was elected.
“These edits were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.” a CBC spokesperson tweeted.
