As gas prices keep climbing across the country, DoorDash is stepping in with a short-term plan to help drivers stay on the road.
DoorDash gas relief payments are now rolling out nationwide. The company confirmed that eligible drivers will receive weekly payments based on the miles they complete while delivering orders. This move follows a sharp spike in fuel costs, with reports noting prices have jumped more than 30 percent in the past month as the national average nears $4 per gallon.
Drivers who log at least 125 miles in a week can qualify for bonuses ranging from $5 to $15. While that may not cover a full tank, it offers some cushion for workers who rely on daily driving. The company is also adding extra incentives, giving Dashers who use the Crimson Debit Card 10 percent cash back on gas purchases.
So when combined, some drivers could see savings that reach up to $1.90 per gallon. However, the program is temporary and currently set to end on April 26.
Gig workers are feeling the pressure more than most because they cover their own fuel and vehicle costs. Companies like Uber and Lyft have also introduced similar efforts, so this signals a wider push to keep drivers active during rising expenses.
