Elon Musk has officially taken on ownership of Twitter, and his first move was to fire at least two of its top executives.
Twitter’s now-former CEO, Parag Agrawal, and Twitter’s chief financial officer and top lawyer have been let go, per Musk’s demands, the Associate Press reports. “The bird is freed,” Musk tweeted from his personal Twitter page Thursday night, seemingly referencing how the streaming platform is under new control.
Musk purchased Twitter in a $44 billion deal that became a six-month back-and-forth battle after Musk put in his bid for Twitter only to withdraw it. His new reign over the platform comes just one day before a court-imposed deadline, CBS News reports.
Now, we all await what a Musk-ran Twitter will look like after being spearheaded for years by Jack Dorsey.
“As we have discussed, the easy part for Musk was buying Twitter,” said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, referring to ongoing issues the platform deals with, including free speech limits and numerous bot accounts. “The difficult part, and Everest-like uphill battle looking ahead, will be fixing this troubled asset,” he said, CBS News reports.
