Thirty years on, “Friday” is still showing up — and this summer, it’s taking the stage. Ice Cube and Mike Epps have announced “Everyday’s Friday: Lyrics, Loungin’ and Laughing,” a one-night-only event at the Long Beach Amphitheater on July 17. Warren G and Geto Boys member Scarface — who contributed “Friday Night” to the original soundtrack alongside CJ Mac — are also on the bill, with additional comedians still to be announced.
The news broke with a memorable flourish. Ice Cube took the mound at Dodger Stadium to throw the ceremonial first pitch, and in a surprise moment that electrified the crowd, Epps emerged as the catcher — a full Craig-and-Day-Day reunion. The appearance coincided with Ice Cube Bobblehead Night at the stadium.
The “Friday” franchise expanded beyond the 1995 original through two sequels: “Next Friday” (2000), which introduced Epps’ fan-favorite character Day-Day, and “Friday After Next” (2002). A fourth installment, “Last Friday,” has long been in development, and the show arrives as that chapter finally moves forward, having received the green light from Warner Bros.
“Friday has always been about and for the fans who made it a classic and kept it alive for nearly 30 years,” Ice Cube said. “To be able to step back out there with Mike Epps and bring that energy to the stage for a one-night-only experience in Long Beach is special. This show represents the beginning of the next chapter.”
Epps echoed the sentiment: “Every day for the last 30 years someone has told me how much they loved the Friday franchise and how much the characters mean to them. To reunite with Cube and bring this one night only experience to the fans is incredible.”
