The Department of Homeland Security has issued a new notice confirming that Haiti’s Temporary Protected Status will officially end on February 3, 2026. This latest announcement replaces the earlier notice that came out on July 1, 2025, and sets a firm deadline for the end of protections.
According to the information released, the Secretary of Homeland Security reviewed conditions in Haiti and determined the country no longer qualifies for TPS. Earlier legal delays had pushed the timeline around, but this notice finalizes the expiration date.
This decision directly affects an estimated 353,000 Haitians who currently rely on TPS for legal protection and work authorization in the United States. Once the program ends at 11:59 p.m. on February 3, 2026, those individuals will lose TPS status unless new policies are introduced.
The Federal Register lists the Humanitarian Affairs Division at USCIS as the point of contact for those needing more information. The update marks one of the largest shifts for Haitian nationals with TPS in more than a decade, leaving families and communities preparing for what comes next.
