West’s death is now at the center of a growing investigation. Her family, alongside attorneys including Harry Daniels and Gerald Griggs, held a press conference on Monday to demand clarity on what led to the fatal incident. The young girl died last week after falling into a coma following a fight in a Douglas County neighborhood, an altercation reportedly tied to an earlier dispute on a school bus.
According to her mother, Jada had been dealing with repeated bullying after transferring to Mason Creek Middle School. That claim has now become central to the family’s concerns, especially as they question whether more could have been done to prevent the situation from escalating. While Jada initially walked away from the fight, she later collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
“We want to find out why she’s [West] not here. If it was some negligence by the school system, the bus driver, or anybody alike, or an intentional act, we don’t know,” Daniels said. “We are currently seeking that information through different channels.”
The family also stated that the other student involved in the fight allegedly exited the bus at Jada’s stop, not her own. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that Villa Rica police and the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office have reviewed early findings tied to the case.
“Georgia has a bullying problem,” Griggs said. “Georgia has an accountability problem and, unfortunately, Jada will have to be the beacon of light to the entire state.”
However, many details remain unclear. Jada’s official cause of death has not yet been released, leaving both investigators and the community waiting for critical answers.
“We don’t know everything. We do know that we have a 12-year-old that should be here today,” Daniels added.
Meanwhile, the Douglas County School System pushed back, claiming the fight doesn’t appear to be related to any on-campus incidents.
