A tense police standoff in Dallas ended with the death of a man who previously worked security for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.
The Jasmine Crockett security detail shooting is now raising questions about the background of a man who reportedly traveled with the Texas lawmaker during campaign events.
According to CBS News, the incident unfolded Wednesday night when a man identified as Mike King ran into a hospital parking garage while law enforcement attempted to confront him. Officers from a SWAT unit then surrounded the vehicle in which he had barricaded himself inside, so the situation quickly escalated into a standoff.
The officers deployed tear gas while trying to force King out of the vehicle. Authorities say he then jumped out and pulled a firearm, so officers opened fire and fatally shot him. Law enforcement sources told CBS that King had been wanted for allegedly impersonating a police officer while operating an online platform called Off Duty Police Services. The site reportedly connected North Texas police officers with off-duty security work.
Images obtained by CBS also show King providing security at events for Crockett and traveling alongside the congresswoman during her recent campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas. Crockett ultimately lost the Democratic primary to Texas State Representative James Talarico.
CBS also reviewed documents showing that a man named King received payment for “security services” connected to Crockett in 2025.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances that led to the standoff.
