Laila Ali isn’t rushing back into the ring, even if the boxing world is buzzing over Claressa Shields’ public challenge.
The undefeated former champion told Good Day DC that while she’s received multiple “flattering” offers, including one reportedly worth $15 million, fighting is not her main priority right now. Ali said she’s focused on her family and her lifestyle brand, adding that any potential return would require a serious commitment to training.
“I haven’t responded purposely because that’s not my focus right now,” Ali said. “I call the shots. I do what I want to do, how I want to do it.”
It’s been two decades since Ali last stepped into a professional boxing match. She admits she’s “the only woman that can ask for that kind of money,” and says her involvement could help grow women’s boxing and inspire the next generation of fighters. Still, she’s clear that the hype doesn’t dictate her decisions.
Claressa Shields, often called the “GWOAT” (Greatest Woman of All Time), has been vocal about wanting to face Ali, fueling speculation about what would be one of the most high-profile fights in women’s boxing history.
For now, Ali is keeping her options open, but she’s not letting the noise pull her off her own path.
This is why Ali in the GOAT. Her response says it all.
