On Wednesday, Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, delayed his testimony before Congress due to “ongoing threats against his family” from his former employer.
According to CNBC, Cohen’s adviser, Lanny Davis, explained that Cohen’s decision to postpone his plan to discuss his dirty dealings with Donald Trump in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee came amid safety concerns for his family, following direct threats from Trump and his new lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.
The former lawyer was set to stand voluntarily before the committee on Feb. 7, but as a result of threats from “as recently as this weekend,” he postponed without elaborating on the nature of the threats. And although the committee called the concerns “legitimate,” they did say they still expect to hear Cohen’s testimony at some point, before he goes in to complete his three year prison sentence.
“Mr. Cohen wishes to thank Chairman Cummings for allowing him to appear before the House Oversight Committee and looks forward to testifying at the appropriate time. This is a time where Mr. Cohen had to put his family and their safety first,” Davis said.
