Mystikal’s son is breaking his silence as his family faces the fallout from the rapper’s 20-year prison sentence.
In a new interview with TMZ, Million Tyler said the past few days have been emotional for him and his family after Mystikal received the sentence in Louisiana. Million said he was in the courtroom when the victim addressed the judge and described the assault. He also said he feels for both the victim and his father, adding that there are “no winners” in a situation like this. Still, his message to Mystikal landed clearly: “I hope you get the help you need. I really hope you do.”
The sentence stems from a 2022 case in Prairieville, Louisiana. According to WBRZ, the victim told the court that Mystikal punched her, choked her, pulled braids from her hair, and forcibly raped her. She asked the judge for the maximum sentence. After her statement, Mystikal tried to address her directly but was told to speak to the judge instead. “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence,” he said in court, according to WBRZ.
The reason the sentence hit so hard comes down to the charge, the plea deal, and Mystikal’s history. He originally faced a first-degree rape charge, which carries life imprisonment under Louisiana law. In March, he pleaded guilty to third-degree rape, a reduced charge that carries up to 25 years at hard labor. His plea agreement capped his sentence at 20 years, meaning the judge gave him the maximum allowed under that deal, not the full statutory maximum.
Days before sentencing, Mystikal’s attorney tried to withdraw the guilty plea, arguing he “did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences” and was “under significant emotional distress and felt substantial pressure to make an immediate decision.” The motion was dismissed.
This case also unfolded against the backdrop of Mystikal’s prior record. AP reported that he pleaded guilty to sexual battery in 2003 and served six years in prison. WBRZ also reported that a judge ordered him to continue sex offender registration after this latest sentence.
