North West has officially launched her music career with the release of her debut EP. After months of anticipation, her EP “N0rth4evr” debuted on Spotify and Apple Music Friday. The 6-tracks is a mash-up of metal guitar riffs, autotune, and punk-infused rap.
The project showcases a distinct, gritty aesthetic that North has been building toward. It follows up North’s single “Piercing on My Hand” in February and collaborations with FKA Twigs and her dad, Ye, last year.
To coincide with the streaming release, a music video for EP’s title track, “#N0rth4evr,” dropped on Thursday. The visuals backing the guitar shredding and autotuned vocals show North taking inspiration from early 2000s emo and punk. The single, which also has elements of heavy metal, continues the glitchy, moody visual effects first seen in a teaser for “N0rth4evr” shared on a YouTube channel last month.
Throughout the project, the lyrics of “#N0rth4evr,” reveal a confident tween with the unsurprising awareness that she’s being watched by the world. Addressing the constant media coverage, she raps: “I don’t listen but they talk about me all day. Everywhere I go feelin’ like a runway.”
It was only a matter of time before the 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, dropped her first EP. With this debut, she is establishing her own creative lane within the industry.
