Gambling regulators in Nevada say they tracked down an Arizona man who left Las Vegas without realizing he won $229,368 on a slot machine last month.
In a statement, the Nevada Gaming Control Board said Robert Taylor’s machine had malfunctioned due to a “communication error,” and neither he nor the Treasure Island Hotel & Casino realized he won the progressive jackpot that night.
According to the casino’s statement, Taylor had returned to Arizona by the time the jackpot was confirmed, but the board could not identify him.
After reviewing video surveillance, interviewing witnesses, reviewing electronic records, as well as reviewing ride-sharing data, the board identified Taylor after two weeks of investigation
James Taylor, chief of the Board’s Enforcement Division, commended agents on the case for “ensuring that the public trust in the gaming industry remains strong by spending countless hours over two weeks to ensure that a patron is awarded winnings owed to him.”
He said, “This has been a great example of government working together for the benefit of the public.”
The lottery board said Taylor, whose hometown wasn’t released, was notified of the jackpot on Jan. 28.
