Pitchfork has ranked Ice Spice’s debut album higher than some of her peers and social media has mixed reactions.
Following the release of her “Y2K!” album, the platform rated Spice’s album a 7.6 out of 10, which is relatively high. Still, the outlet offered critiques about her wordplay but praised her ability to remain authentic.
“What makes Y2K! so instantly memorable is Ice Spice’s refusal to be pigeonholed. Undaunted by the scrutiny of Swiftie affiliation or the pressure of living up to her previous sales peaks, Spice doubles down on the sounds she loves without compromise or quarter,” the Vivian Medithi written piece added.
The internet has many thoughts on Pitchfork’s scoring, especially since Spice’s album was rated higher than many of her peers. Megan Thee Stallion’s “MEGAN” album received a 6.6, while Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” was given a 6.5. Some fans believe Spice didn’t deserve such a high score, while others believe “Y2K!” deserved such an accolade.
