On Tuesday, a prospective juror, identified as Juror 43, was dismissed after admitting to reading a Yahoo! article about the case, a clear violation of court instructions. As reported by Exclusive Deets, Juror 43 is an attorney, adding a layer of irony to the incident.
While commuting by train, Juror 43 stated that the article “popped up” on his phone, prompting him to click on it. The article reportedly detailed the jury process and events from the trial’s first day. Upon disclosure, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian issued a strike and dismissed him from the jury pool.
This incident is part of a series of challenges in assembling an impartial jury for the high-profile case. Another potential juror was dismissed after expressing skepticism about the justice system, stating that Combs could “buy his way out of jail” due to his wealth. Additionally, a man who admitted to daily recreational marijuana use, which he acknowledged affects his judgment, was also excused.
Combs, 55, faces serious federal charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for purposes of prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently detained without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The trial is expected to last up to two months, with opening statements scheduled for May 12th.
