We are approaching our final days of 2013 and one thing I believe in is not carrying old baggage over. I’ve never been the “New Year, New Me” type but it’s never too early to do some emotional Spring cleaning.Â
I saw this list online and wanted to share it with you guys as well as add to it myself. Let’s keep this list going and turn the 10 Things into 20.
1. The Need To Always Please Others – Understand that you can’t please everyone and it is okay. So often we overextend ourselves because we want to make everyone happy and we forget that the person we truly need to make happy is ourselves. If you’ve tried all you could and someone is still not happy with you or your situation, realize that there isn’t much else that you can do. You have to do what’s best for you and your life, not what’s best for everyone else.
2. Letting The Opinions Of Others Control Your Life – This is something I learned to do a long time ago and it has truly made me a happier person since then. It’s not what others think about you, it’s what you think about you that really counts. So often we neglect to do something we truly want to do because we are afraid of what other people will think. We’e got to remember that the life we have was given to us to live so it’s up to us to make our own choices.
3. The Need To Always Be Right – Let go of the need to always be right. No one is right 100% of the time. We don’t have all of the answers. Sometimes it’s okay to say “I don’t know” or “You are right”. Sometimes it’s okay to lose the battle because only then is it that you’ve truly won.
4. Toxic Situations – Leave toxic people and toxic situations in 2013. This is something that I know is easier said than done, but know that these toxic elements play a major factor in your health and the sooner you get rid of them, the better you’ll feel. Stress and depression can cause weight gain, hair loss, have negative effects on the skin and change your mood for the worst. Is that something you wan’t to bring into the New Year?
5. The Shame Of Past Failures – Your past does not equal your future and every mistake is just a lesson to be learned. Never forget. Sometimes you have to burn yourself to know for sure that fire is hot. Don’t let the mistakes of your past dictate how your future will turn out. All that matters is what you plan to do today.
