Spring Break Crackdown: Miami Beach Authorities Report Over 270 Arrests

Istock

Over 100 people have been arrested, with two police officers injured, since spring break commenced in Miami Beach over the weekend.

On Friday night, large “disorderly” crowds gathered. According to NY Daily News, “200 people…were ‘blocking a roadway, drinking with open containers and smoking what appeared to be marijuana.'”

Miami Beach police reportedly utilized pepper balls to break up the group. However, it was not until Saturday night that things started to pick up.

Not only did 30 people get arrested on Saturday, but the ill-behaved crowd put two officers in the hospital.

According to CNN, “The weekend’s approximately 100 arrests included some for the seizure of weapons and drugs.”

Keep in mind, Florida lacks a mask mandate, and that alone is pretty marketable to those dying to travel after one whole year inside. The best the city can do is pass out masks and encourage individuals to wear them.

Jamin Stuhr of Iowa commented that he and his friends are trying to have fun in the safest, most quarantined way possible.

“It’s just really important to keep everyone safe, especially the more prone to getting it and getting really sick from it,” he said. The group said they were wearing masks on the street and staying with their own group.

Tanya Landry of Miami ensured that practicing social distancing while spending time at the beach.

As of Saturday, The Florida Department of Health reported 1,973,109 Covid-19 cases. The majority of cases are from Miami-Dade County, as reported by CNN.
