In a heartbreaking and shocking case out of Minden, Louisiana, an 11-year-old boy has confessed to fatally shooting former interim mayor Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and his daughter, Keisha Miles, 31. The child, who is reportedly a relative of the victims, was arrested on Sunday after admitting to the crime, according to Minden Police Chief Jared McIver.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Chief McIver revealed that officers were called to the scene earlier that day by a family member who discovered the bodies. Cornelius, a respected former city councilman and interim mayor of Minden, and his daughter were found in a home, each with multiple gunshot wounds.
The 11-year-old initially gave police a story that didn’t align with the evidence, leading to further questioning. After being brought to the police station by a guardian, the boy eventually confessed to the double homicide. Authorities discovered two weapons hidden on the property, and the calibers matched shell casings found at the scene. However, it remains unclear how the child obtained the weapons.
The young suspect has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. At this time, it is unknown whether the boy will be tried as an adult.
The motive behind this tragic incident remains a mystery, as the police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal shootings.
