The majority of passengers aboard a flight from Italy to India tested positive for COVID–19 when the plane landed yesterday — despite many receiving negative test results just before the plane took off.
The director of Amritsar airport, VK Seth, confirmed that 125 of 179 passengers on board tested positive for the virus when the plane landed about 1:30 p.m.
All the adult passengers were tested after they arrived in Amritsar in Punjab because Italy is considered one of the high-risk countries for the fast-spreading Omicron variant.
Many passengers were shocked by the results and wondered why they tested positive after receiving negative results in Italy.
Among the passengers on board, the Portugal’s EuroAtlantic Airways flight were 19 children or infants, who were exempt from RT-PCR testing.
All of the infected travelers were then placed under quarantine.
