13 Year Old Brayan Zavala Fatally Shot On Front Lawn In Georgia

13-year-old Brayan Zavala was fatally shot in Riverdale in Clayton County, Georgia. On Thursday evening Brayan and his 16 year-old brother Jesus were mowing the lawn. Suddenly an unknown assailant approached them. The gunman, who was seen wearing a black ski mask and all-black attire, circled the Zavala’s residence in a Chevy HHR SUV with no plates.

He stepped out of the car; firing several rounds that struck the 13-year-old boy’s body. A distraught Jesus told reporters he believed it was Brayan’s position on the back of the machine that made his brother an easy target.

“The shooter didn’t even say anything, He just came and started shooting…The bullets passed through my brother and blood just squirted out of him,” Jesus continued. “We tried to stop all the blood,” Jesus said. Unfortunately the 9:15 PM police response to the Zavala’s Residence was too late. Brayan Zavala was pronounced dead at arrival, a week shy of his 14th birthday.

“They killed my son for nothing, I don’t have enemies, I work everyday from 5am to 9pm,” the boy’s devastated  father Santiago Zavala explained. While investigators haven’t determined any connection between Brayan and the gunman, they are currently calling for assistance in finding the assailant as well as two other individuals seen in the car.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact investigators at (770) 477-4479. “As a Clayton County police officer for over 38 years, very little shocks me. But this brutal, senseless murder has overwhelmed me. I send my prayers to the family.” Doug Jewett said.

An online fundraiser has been set up to help with Brayan funeral expenses. My name is Jesus Zavala. On the night of October 15, 2020, my little brother, Brayan was shot and killed outside of our family home. Brayan was 13 years old, turning 14. He has been taken from us for no reason. At this time, Clayton County Police are working to help my family track down the shooter. We have no answers,” reads the GoFundMe account. It is halfway to its goal.
