14 Thieves Steal Over $120K in Merchandise From Louis Vuitton in Chicago Suburbs

According to reports, last week a crew of fourteen stole $120,000 worth of items from a Louis Vuitton store in the Chicago suburbs.

Oak Brook Police Chief James Kruger said, “Once they entered the store, they pulled out the garbage bags from their coats and started filling them with merchandise.”

On Wednesday, the criminals entered the store in an Oak Brook, Illinois, retail mall wearing masks and all-black attire, taking a variety of items before quickly fleeing the area, surveillance video showed.

According to Kruger, surrounding law enforcement officers are still tracking license plate information related with the three getaway vehicles in order to identify the suspects.

NBC News reported that one of the vehicles used in the crime, a Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen in October, was seized by the Chicago Police Department on Friday. However, no arrests have been made.

Kruger said that incident in Oak Brook was very similar to an incident that occurred just weeks before in a Louis Vuitton store in Chicago’s northern suburbs.

According to authorities, that case had the same M.O, 13 burglars and three getaway drivers broke into a Louis Vuitton store in a Northbrook, Illinois, shopping center and stole more than $150,000 worth of products.

“We don’t know if there is a connection yet, but certainly there are similarities and our investigators are talking to their investigators,” Kruger noted, adding, “The attorney general is looking into this investigation as well and whether or not to tie it to a larger scale investigation.”

Residents of Oak Brook expressed how surprised they were that the incident occurred in such a generally safe part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

“This is a safe area,” one shopper told WLS. “We come here all the time. The kids play outside.”

Another added: “You don’t expect that kind of thing to happen outside of the city, too. I actually moved in from the city just recently. I thought I escaped all of that.”
