The 14-Year-old suspected to be involved in the fatal stabbing death of Tessa Majors is in police custody. According to a high ranking NYPD official who spoke to the NY Post, the unidentified teen was nabbed by detectives in the Bronx before 8 a.m. this morning.
The teen was taken to the 26th Precinct in Harlem; sources were not clear on whether or not the teen was apprehended as a result of a tip or if he surrendered to police.
The police would also not comment on if they planned to charge him, saying only, “They’re proceeding with the investigation.”
The teenager is being represented by a lawyer and is not expected to agree to police questioning. “Since he has a lawyer, he’s not going to give anything up,” the source told the Post.
Detectives, however, plan to obtain a sample of his DNA, relying on the forensic technology to try to match it to evidence from the December 11th slaying in Morningside Park.
Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison wrote cryptically on Twitter on Thursday morning, “We have located this individual. Thank you to everyone who reached out with information.”
The teen is suspected of stabbing Majors, an 18-year-old Barnard College freshman, based the account of 13-year-old Zyairr Davis, who’s being charged in Family Court with felony murder for his participation in her death.
Davis alleged that he and two pals tried to rob Majors and that one of the others stabbed her when she tried to resist. However, Under New York state law, the testimony of a single co-conspirator isn’t enough to sustain charges against a criminal defendant.
Last week, the teen reportedly jumped out of a car while on his way with an unidentified adult to meet with cops to discuss Majors’ slaying, resulting in a manhunt conducted by the NYPD in Harlem. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Detectives in the case now believe that the story was a “ruse” created by the adult, to buy the teen time to get underground.
