Christopher Walls, a 16-year-old Hallandale High School football player, died in police custody after leading police on a car chase.
According to police documents, Walls stole a car from a neighborhood gas station and led officers on a 20-mile chase from Broward to Miami-Dade.
Witnesses say that Walls was dragged out of the vehicle and beaten by police, according to Local 10 television.
“You could see them kick him in the head, kick him in the side, kick him all over the place and it was a total shock,” one witness said.
Paramedics assessed Walls within five minutes of the incident and left immediately after checking him out.
According to Miami-Dade police, Walls passed out and died while in their custody. Officers who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave until the results of the investigation.
