On Friday, the city of Los Angeles was hit with a lawsuit for the actions of a 10-year veteran police officer during last year’s police cadet program.

In the lawsuit obtained by NBC4, the victim, identified only as 16-year-old Jane B.Q. Doe, accused former Officer Robert Cain, who supervised her in the cadet program, of sexually assaulting her and giving her a pill to induce abortion when he thought she was pregnant sometime during their five-month relationship.

The complaint detailed the extent of their relationship, which included trips to Magic Mountain, gifts, and inappropriate text messages. The suit also accused the city of negligently supervising Cain in the program and ignoring/covering up the sexual abuse, even after a complaint was previously filed against the officer.

Although Cain is not named as a defendant in the suit, he resigned last June after he was personally arrested by the police Chief on weapons charges after he was linked to the sex scandal.

As part of the criminal investigation into his alleged inappropriate behavior with the then-15-year-old female LAPD cadet, Cain’s home was searched, which in turn uncovered several restricted firearms, including assault rifles and weapons-related contraband. As a result, he was charged with 10 felony weapons charges, including the illegal possession and manufacturing of assault rifles.

At the time, Cain pleaded no contest to two weapons-related charges and was sentenced immediately to two years behind bars, as the other charges were dismissed. However, as for the incident with the underage girl, Cain pleaded not guilty to two counts each of oral copulation of a person under 16, lewd acts on a child and unlawful sexual intercourse. Although he is awaiting a preliminary hearing for those charges, the young girl is seeking an unspecified damage for the incident. He is also facing seven years and eight months on the pending charges.
