A North Carolina teenager ended up in the hospital with severe burns after taking part in a hazardous TikTok challenge.
Recently, gruesome photos of 16-year-old Mason Dark went viral after a group of TikTok users dared him to create a torch using a lighter and a spray paint can.
The users frequently come together online to make small flamethrowers. However, their impromptu project went wrong, resulting in Dark being engulfed in flames when the spray can exploded.
After the incident, Dark ran to a nearby river in Wake Forest and plunged into the water to extinguish the flames. When he emerged, Dark had suffered third-degree burns on 76% of his body, including his face.
Holli, Dark’s mother, informed local affiliate WRAL News that her son’s appearance has been drastically altered. She also shared that her son was immediately taken to a burn center, where he underwent surgery to receive skin grafts.
The way he looked when those kids saw him when he first came in, to what he looks like now, it’s 100 times different.” Holli said.
Dark is projected to remain in the hospital for a minimum of six months.
