A 17-year-old Louisiana patient has died from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.
However, it remains unclear if the patient had any pre-existing health conditions, as the department failed to identify the teen and detail their medical history.
Despite the lack of details, the teenās death is the first in the state under the age of 36.
āIt does illustrate the point that everyone is at risk,ā Gov. John Bel Edwards said of the teenās unfortunate death. āSome percentage, regardless of age and their health, ā¦are at risk of having serious, severe complications. That includes deaths.ā
āNobody should assume this disease will not severely impact them or have the potential to kill them,ā Edwards continued.
The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 83 people in Louisiana, out of 2,305 total cases in the state.
