19-Year-Old New Mom Stabbed To Death While Protecting Little Sister From Bullies

Ta’Lela Fontia Stevenson was doing what any big sister would do to protect her little sister from bullies when she was stabbed and killed in Atlanta.

A Georgia woman says that her 19-year-old daughter, Ta’Lela Fontia Stevenson was stabbed to death Sunday while defending her younger sister from bullies outside of their home.

Stevenson’s 14-year old little sister had an ongoing dispute with bullies for a couple of weeks, according to reports. On the day of the murder, Stevenson’s mother, Alfonza Simmons, says she witnessed the incident happen, “She came home and told her sisters, and they just came out to say, ’Leave her alone.’” 

They were all right here in front of my house,” Simmons added. “I’m, like, ‘Y’all need to move,’ but they just lashed out and my daughter was standing right here, and the girl ran around and attacked my daughter.”

When police arrived on the scene, they found 18-year-old Garry Banks with a stab wound to the arm and Stevenson, who was lying in the driveway, with a wound in the neck from when she tried to pull an attacker off her younger sister, reports CBS.

Stevenson was taken to Grady Hospital, where she died shortly after. Banks was treated for the wounds on his arm.

Stevenson was a new mother who gave birth to a baby girl less than a month ago.

News outlets report that 14-year-old Jashaunte Marshall has been arrested and charged with felony murder in the Sunday death of Stevenson. Marshall is currently being held at Fulton County Juvenile Detention Center in Atlanta.
