Police have reported that a shooter opened fire into a crowd at a Washington state campground hosting a nearby music festival on Saturday night, resulting in two fatalities and three injuries.
Authorities received the first calls just before 8:30 p.m. at the camping area, which is located a few hundred yards from the Gorge Amphitheater. According to Kyle Foreman, the public information officer with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, thousands of people were attending an electronic dance music festival at the amphitheater.
The suspect initially fired shots and then proceeded to move through the campground, randomly shooting into the crowd. Eventually, law enforcement confronted and apprehended the suspect, as reported by WISTV News. During the confrontation, the suspect was also injured by gunfire and has been hospitalized, but no additional information has been released regarding their condition.
Despite the incident, the music festival continued until early Sunday morning, according to Foreman. He mentioned that the suspect had remained on the outskirts of the festival property and was under surveillance by law enforcement, ensuring that he did not approach the venue.
The organizers of the Beyond Wonderland electronic music festival announced on social media that the events scheduled for Sunday were canceled in response to the shooting.
