According to The Washington Post, two men who took part in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol have been arrested and charged with attacking a police officer who died after responding to the riot.
Julian Elie Khater, 32, of Pennsylvania, and George Pierre Tanios, 39, of West Virginia, were arrested on Sunday and are scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday.
Khater and Tanios are accused of attacking Sicknick, a US Capitol Police officer named C. Edwards, and a D.C. police officer named B. Chapman with a lethal weapon on nine counts. They’re also accused of inciting a riot and obstructing a congressional hearing. The charges bring a maximum term of 20 years in jail.
Even so, it’s unclear if anybody will face criminal charges in connection with Sicknick’s death. While charging papers allege proof of an attack on Sicknick is evident on film, his case has not been identified as a homicide due to the lack of a cause of death.
