Two suspects have been charged with the death of a 3-year-old Kamille ‘Cupcake’ McKinney, the little girl whose body was found in a dumpster after being abducted from a birthday party in Birmingham, Alabama.
Police charged Patrick Stallworth, 39, and Derick Brown, 29, with capital murder of a victim less than 14 years of age, according to prosecutors Thursday.
‘Cupcake’ was last seen playing with other children at an outdoor birthday party in the apartment complex her family lived in.
After her disappearance, an Amber Alert was issued across multiple states, and reports said she might have been abducted by a man and a woman in a dark-colored SUV.
As Baller Alert reported, Kamille’s remains were found earlier this week inside a dumpster in a landfill, after a days-long search, according to Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith.
Smith announced that the landfill, where the 3-year-old’s remains were found, was not far from the apartment complex where she was last seen.
In a news conference, the police chief also reminded parents to always be on high alert, “It only takes a split second.” He continued, “We can no longer assume that everyone is a part of the village that is trying to raise the child.”
At this time, Smith says there is no reported connection between the two suspects and Kamille’s family.
Cupcake’s cause and time of death have not yet been determined.
