A 20-year-old black male who was known as an anti-pedophile activist was found hanging from a tree an hour from his home.
The shocking story comes out of Lewis Morris Park in Morris County, NJ, where Amani Kildea was found hanging from a tree on June 28. His death has been ruled a suicide by local medical examiners and authorities who say there is no reason to believe foul play was involved.
A change.org petition claims Amani was not suicidal before he was found dead. In fact, he was looking forward to attending college at James Madison University this upcoming fall. He had aspirations of working as an FBI or CIA agent, but sadly his dreams were cut short.
“As of this time, no evidence of a criminal act has yet been found, however, our efforts to determine what occurred remain very active,” Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said in a statement issued on Friday. “We have followed and continue to follow all investigative leads and will go where the evidence takes us.”
The local medical examiner’s office believes there was no criminality involved and determined Amani’s death a suicide. And police have ruled out the possibility that his death had anything to do with exposing pedophilia on his page @pedogotcaught. A page that adopted the same approach as “To Catch a Predator” where members would pose as minors online before catching and exposing a predator publicly.
“Amani’s work in the community to expose sexual predators was brave, but dangerous, leaving him vulnerable to retaliation from those criminals,” T’Anna Kimbrough, Black Lives Matter Morristown Founder told the Morristown Green. “Despite [the local prosecutor’s] assertion that there is ‘no cause to believe there is any criminality involved’ in his death by hanging, Amani’s work in the community sheds light on a possible motive to kill and silence him.”
News One spoke with Amani’s adoptive father, who disputes claims of foul play and says his son was beautiful but troubled and believes he took his own life.
However, many remain skeptical of suicide rulings due to the racial tension across the nation. Amani’s death is among the recent hangings of Dominique Alexander, Robert Fuller, and Malcolm Harsch, all deaths that have been ruled suicides.
Knapp says, contrary to social media, the investigation is ongoing.
