A 20-year-old woman came back to life after officials declared her dead over the weekend.
It all started on Saturday in Southfield, Michigan, where a woman was found unresponsive in her home. At the time, the woman was not breathing, according to Southfield Fire Department.
Upon arrival, paramedics performed CPR and other “life reviving methods,” but after 30 minutes, the woman’s medical readings determined “she did not have signs of life.”
As a result, the woman, who also had no heartbeat, was declared dead via phone by an ER doctor. From there, fire officials called the medical examiner’s office, where the forensic pathologist on duty determined that based on the ER doctor’s conclusion and the woman’s previous medical history, her body was to be released to her family without further forensic testing.
However, by the time the woman got to James H. Cole Home for Funerals in Detroit, staff members discovered she was still breathing.
“After receiving clearance from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office, she was transported to our funeral home,” the funeral home said in a statement. “Upon her arrival at the funeral home, our staff confirmed she was breathing and called EMS.”
The woman was then transported to a local hospital, where her condition remains unknown, PEOPLE reports. The woman’s identify will not be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
