The annual celebration of achievements in the entertainment industry known as the #BETAwards went down this evening in Los Angeles, California. After almost 10 years, Oscar Award winning actor, #JamieFoxx, returned to host the award show at time when black excellence is taking the world by storm. Foxx started the show by recognizing Marvel’s first black written film, “Black Panther,” for making history as the biggest Marvel movie and third highest grossing movie of all time.

“We don’t need a president right now because we’ve got a king. King T’Challa make some noise,” Foxx said as the crowd applauded to the presidential shade.

The show proceeded with an opening act from California’s own, #JayRock, who performed his new single “Win,” and set the tone for all the winners of the night. Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, 2 Chainz and YG also took the stage with their summer banger, “Big Bank.” While other artist such as Ella Mai, H.E.R., Daniel Caesar and Miguel represented for the R&B lovers. Other performers included J. Cole, Migos, Meek Mill, Janelle Monae, Snoop Dogg and Tye Tribbett.

In addition to awarding this year’s hottest artists, actors and athletes, BET also recognizes the legends who have paved the way for entertainers today. After a lovely serenade from the night’s host, Jamie Foxx and tributes from Marsha Ambrosius, Ledisi and Yoland Adams, the lifetime achievement award was presented to Grammy Award winning songstress, Anita Baker. While accepting her award the “Sweet Love” singer encouraged veterans in the music business to look out for the new generations and help to guide them.
