21 Savage is making it clear that his lyrics are nothing but cap.

The “Spin Bout U” rapper had a lengthy chat with Rolling Stone, where he dished on several topics, one of which is the validity of music lyrics. Since Young Thug’s RICO trial, many people have begun dissecting the use of music lyrics in court cases, with many arguing that it’s impossible to convict someone based on likely fictional stories. Several artists, such as Fat Joe, have weighed in on this, and now 21 is putting in his two cents. As for his own song lyrics, the rapper confirms they are “fiction as h***.”

“I just think of it in my head. Some of it be based off of real life, but a lot of it be creative stories,” 21 assured the outlet.

Sadly, the real-life aspects of his songs have much to do with the trauma he has endured. 21 was shot six times in 2013 during a botched drug deal that claimed the life of his best friend. He was 21 at the time, which is what partially motivated his rap moniker. Since then, the rapper has soared to superstardom, though he has not forgotten his Atlanta upbringing nor his U.K. roots, where he was born. The rapper recently returned for his first U.K. show since becoming an official United States citizen.

Elsewhere in the chat, 21 also defended his pal Drake and his alleged Megan Thee Stallion diss on the record, “Circo Loco.” According to him, Aubrey meant no harm towards Meg, another case of musical “fiction.”
