A 23-year-old man was arrested after a video captured him nonchalantly shooting a homeless man execution-style in broad daylight on a St. Louis street.
Deshawn Thomas was arrested in connection with the Monday murder. In the video, Thomas appears to struggle to load his gun as he stood right behind the homeless man, who was sitting on the curb just a few feet away.
Thomas then appears to fire the weapon at the victim, who had raised his arms at one point but didn’t try to run away.
The video was taken by a bystander and posted online. “Oh my God. He just f–king killed him,” the witness can be heard saying.
The shooting happened in the heart of downtown St. Louis around 10 a.m. Monday, police confirmed. When authorities arrived they found the victim lying on the ground with a gun shot wound to his head, Fox News reported.
A preliminary investigation found that the suspect and the victim had a physical altercation at a nearby gas statios.
The suspect was arrested at a local library after fleeing the scene. Police said Thomas was found around 2:45 pm and was in possession of a firearm and shell casings at the time of his apprehension.
“Any homicide is unnerving,” Major Ryan Cousins told media outlets, “but for this one to happen here, at this time, very much so.”
The video was removed from social media but not before making rounds.
The Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s office charged Thomas with first-degree murder and armed criminal action but that hasn’t stopped people from slamming Gardner, a George Soros-backed prosecutor has been called upon to resign from her position by the state’s governor and attorney general for allegedly neglecting her duties.
Gardner has several allegations of misconduct and mishandled cases, including her most recent involving a 16-year-old volleyball player who was hit by a vehicle and lost both of her legs after she was hit by someone facing felony charges for robbery and had violated his bail conditions multiple times.
Missouri Republicans is asking for the state to handle the case instead of Gardner.
